March 13, 2025

HOLLISTER, CA — Today, Navigator Schools has been honored with the prestigious 2025 Hart Vision Equity & Innovation Schools of the Year award by the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA). This recognition celebrates Navigator Schools’ commitment to fostering inclusive and innovative learning environments, ensuring that all students are supported, empowered, and have the opportunity to succeed.

The Hart Vision Equity & Innovation Awards, voted on by educational peers, celebrate schools that empower students and serve as models of excellence. Navigator Schools, with 66% of its students classified as socioeconomically disadvantaged, is being acknowledged for its dedication to the values epitomized by this award.

“Our students consistently outperform their peers across the state, with a 14% higher achievement in English Language Arts (ELA) and 16% higher performance in math,” said Dr. Caprice Young, CEO and Superintendent of Navigator Schools. “This recognition reflects the impact of our data-informed instruction and weekly coaching for educators, ensuring our scholars have the tools needed to academically thrive. This focus on every child by name and need is even more crucial post-pandemic as we all battle the learning loss experienced during that time.”

Navigator Schools, founded in 2011, serves nearly 2,000 students in Gilroy, Hayward, Hollister, and Watsonville. Navigator has prepared more than 700 graduates for success in high school, college, and beyond.

“At Navigator Schools, we believe every child deserves access to a high-quality education that prepares them for success in life,” Dr. Young added. “This award reinforces our commitment to creating opportunities for all students to excel and lead in their communities.”

Past recipients of the Hart Vision Equity and Innovation Award include CORE Butte Charter School (Butte County) and Magnolia Public Schools (Los Angeles).
